Crochet Placemat in Wedge Shape

Simple to do - to finish the set, add a coaster for a water or wine glass.

  • Lion Brand Kitchen Cotton, 3 ounces for each mat
  • crochet hook size 7, or size to obtain gauge
  • gauge: 6½ double crochet = 2 inches
.
Directions:

Chain 37, putting a marker on the 19th stitch. There should be 18 stitches, a marked stitch, and then 18 more stitches. Chain 3 more stitches for the turn chain for dc.

Row 1: dc in 4th chain from hook, and in each chain to the marked stitch. 2 dc in the marked stitch, and then 1 dc in each chain to end of row. Chain 3 to turn.

Row 2, and all rows after that: Dc in each dc across. At the 2dc in one chain from the previous row, make 2 dc in the first dc of the set of two. One stitch increased. Do this every row, always in the first dc of the set of two from the previous row.

Crochet about 20 rows, or whatever will make the depth of mat you desire.

To increase or decrease size: Add or subtract stitches in multiple of 3 — a center stitch, plus one stitch each side. The total number of chain stitches in the foundation chain must be an uneven number.

Optional Edging: The chain 3 turns make a built in scallop edge. However if you desire an additional edging the following works well.

Single crochet on beginning and ending edges. On side edges, sc on chain 3 turns, work 3 dc in spaces between turns.

Crochet Placemat -- Wedge shape is nice for a round table.
