| Don't try to fool Mom Nature!
Catherine Cartwright Jones had it right when she talks about color choices for garments. Get a copy of "The Tap Dancing Lizard," and read her advice on Mother Nature's colors:
"There are no ugly birds. All flowers are beautiful. Animals always dress tastefully. If you are stuck for color ideas, go to a zoo and think of your sweater in terms of what the fauna are wearing this year, or go to a garden shop, where each flower is a fashion statement, ... A color against another color, unless you have seen the combination on an animal or a flower, might clash, so be careful. " --- quoted with permission
The forgoing statement forms the foundation of the book "Color Shop."
Books on color abound. Some are very good, some are very technical, some seem way off base to me. In the past thirty years there has been a great deal of research on the eye and how it perceives color.
Most of it is beyond my technical understanding, except to say that there appears to be an inability to perceive the color yellow. Accurate color perception depends on seeing yellow. It is not color blindness as such. But it is the subtle difference between silver taupe and tan taupe -- color names are deceiving too, but you get the idea. Those two taupes will go well with blue colors or yellow colors respectively. The difference is nearly indistinguishable, but makes a surprising difference when used in a multi color design in fabric.
